HAMMOND — State police issued 39 tickets during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail Sept. 25 on St. Lawrence Highway 37.
Troopers monitored traffic on State Highway 37 in Hammond while road crews were conducting shoulder work.
During the detail, troopers reportedly blend in with the workers and watch for unsafe behavior.
In total, 39 tickets were issued, including: Five speeding tickets; three cell phone tickets, twelve seat belt tickets, 17 non-moving violations and two moving violations.
Also, two commercial vehicle inspections were completed resulting in a pair of violations.
“Motorists are reminded to drive responsibly in work zones, troopers said. “Make sure to follow the postage signage and put down any distractions. Slow down, and move over to another lane when it is safe to do so. Everyone working on the side of the roadways deserves to get back home safely.”
