A pilot program launched last year to connect local high school students with professional artists recently received $5,000 to enhance arts education.
The North Country Art Teachers Association (NCATA), in collaboration with the St. Lawrence County Arts Council, received the grant from the SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation.
The program connects North Country students with professional artists through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and an annual exhibition.
The grant’s goal is to expand educational access to the arts and nurture creative talent.
“The program provides students with invaluable hands-on learning experiences, fostering artistic skills and creativity,” said Jason Hubbard, NCATA President and an art teacher at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.
“The Art Scholars program has been a dream realized through the passion and hard work of our teachers and community partners. This funding will allow us to expand from 18 to 24 students, offering more young artists the chance to develop their talents and showcase their work,” said Hubbard.
